Weather/What to Wear

Weather

April in Austin is usually delightful, with warm, sunny days and cool nights. Average high temperatures are in the upper 70s (F) and lows in the 50s. Texas weather is variable, however, and anything from highs in the 80s or even 90s to a “blue norther” dropping temps into the low 40s would not be too surprising.

We generally get about 2 1/2 inches of rain in April. May, not April, is one of our rainiest months. Still, we advise bringing an umbrella or poncho because the tours will go on, rain or shine.

What to wear

Austin is a casual, laid-back city, and shorts and T-shirts reign supreme. Layers are best in April due to possible temperature extremes, but count on being able remove your light jacket or sweater by early afternoon as the day warms up.

For meals on the 5th, casual wear is fine—anything from a tee and shorts or jeans to a casual skirt and blouse or khakis and a polo shirt, etc. If you decide to try some of the more-upscale Austin restaurants while you’re here, dressy casual will suffice. Coats and ties are rarely worn.

Be sure to leave space in your suitcase or bring an extra bag for a few Texas souvenirs!
